Spread over 1300 sq. ft. space in a plush high-rise apartment at
Mumbai, this project is an understated cocoon of luxury.
Monochromatic with gradient overlays and a smattering of
complementary colours makes the Intelligent home warm and
welcoming. It is one part of 2 adjacent apartments, connected
with a door yet entirely different in its character.
Being a young NRI couple, the clients had a very contemporary
taste. “The brief was to integrate the space seamlessly. Make it a
party place to hang out with friends and also a warm home to the
young kids”, mentions the architect.
The living room opens into a honey-hued sitting area. Antique
brass finish has been used for all the metal inlay work on the
ceiling, flooring and panelling. The flooring is Bronzetto Amani
with minimalist patterned brass inlay. An Italian ‘L’ shaped leather
recliner dominates the living area with a chrome Evol Cocktail
table. A copper Lisboa Clock by Carlo Zerbaro perches delicately
in the corner. The TV projector above the recliner is merged with
the ceiling. Subtle yet bold, the wallpaper from Glamora adds
drama along with a backlight.
An ombre carpet and glass centre table keeps the living room
light and airy. French windows open into a balcony with 2
relaxing chairs bringing the outdoors inside. The common sliding
door between the two apartments was treated similar to the
wallpaper giving uniformity to the wall space. The ceiling
throughout the house is veneer. The premises have low ceiling
height. A clever trick of creating different contour levels on the
ceiling not only solved the dwarfishness but also added volume
to the space. Hugger fans from Anemos supported the need to
visually increase the ceiling height.
Jaswinder says that the space needed to look clean and tall.
He adds, “A visual balance is achieved by placing coloured
furniture and furnishings against the bold wall treatment, flooring
and ceiling.”
Kitchen being an important part of the daily life is customised on
site as per the client’s requirement. An open kitchen concept has
been used here. Compact and sleek, it provides sufficient storage
and hosts all the gadgets. It boasts of sleek glass cabinets for
storage, diffused lights on the dado as well as under the kitchen
platform. A multipurpose portable island is placed opposite the
hob. It can be used as a space to interact while conducting daily
kitchen chores, as a mini bar, breakfast counter or a serving table
during parties. It can even be easily shifted to any corner of the
house making the living area more spacious and huge, even
outside into the balcony opening the interiors further.
The passage is enveloped in the same marble and edged with
stainless steel. An illusion is created to balance the length of the
passage and create interest. A bronze mirror in the ceiling reflects
the infinity thus created. The common shower in the passage was
designed on the lines of a night club with extra-large ceiling light
fixture. It is aligned with the passage paneling.
